America's Best-in-State Hospitals 2026 Survey

When faced with a medical issue, patients deserve the best care possible without having to travel far. Whether for long-term care or an emergency situation, knowing that there is a good hospital nearby will bring peace of mind.

In a study of 190.311 adults with emergency general surgery admissions, it was found that patients who traveled more than 60 minutes to the hospital were more likely to need care such as operative intervention and longer-term admissions with more expensive bills.

Having access to quality hospitals close to home is important. That is why Newsweek is proud to evaluate, for the third year in a row, America's Best-in-State Hospitals for 2026.

Last year our list ranked the top hospitals in each state and Washington, D.C., recognizing 700 of the nation's best facilities based on the recommendations of medical and health care professionals. This year, we aim to provide the same thorough evaluation to ensure that individuals and families across the country can access top-tier health care close to home.
